Tai 3 AWD 501km Complete Guide

Fangchengbao's first pure EV — boxy, youth-focused, with a 151 L frunk, 6 kW V2L, and a flagship whose roof-mounted DJI drone hangar launches and lands while you drive. Not official in the Gulf — everything on the market is a gray import.

Overview

Young buyers, campers, and content creators who want the standout boxy look, a practical frunk, and V2L — the cheapest ticket into the 'Leopard' world, if you can live with gray-import quirks.

  • ⚠️ Not officially sold in the GCC — gray imports only (UAE: 'BYD Leopard Titanium 3' at AED 75,000-84,000)
  • 310 kW (416 hp) AWD, 0-100 in 4.9 s + drift mode and rear-locked pivot turn
  • Blade LFP up to 78.72 kWh — 501 km CLTC (real Gulf ~350-400 km)
  • BYD Lingyuan + DJI Air 3S roof drone (flagship) — takeoff/landing while driving ⚠️ needs a Gulf permit
  • 151 L frunk + 6 kW V2L that can charge another EV

Gulf charging notes

  • All three packs (65.28 / 72.96 / 78.72 kWh) rate 501 km CLTC — in Gulf summer expect a real ~350-400 km with AC.
  • China-spec imports: confirm the DC port works on Gulf CCS2 stations before buying — some cars need a GB/T adapter.
  • LFP pack: charge to 100% every 1-2 weeks to calibrate the range gauge — keep daily charging at 20-80%.

  • GBox (free): runs Google services — YouTube, Google Maps, Netflix — in a sandbox on GMS-less screens
  • Aurora Store (free, open source): download Play Store apps with no Google account, straight from the screen
  • Gboard: Arabic/English typing replacing the Chinese-only factory keyboard on imports
  • Google Maps or Waze on the factory screen — full Gulf coverage unlike the Chinese factory nav
  • Install: ADB from a laptop (adb install -g) — the same path i99dash uses. On BYD install AppManager first to unlock installs

Proven by thousands of owners (XDA + Russian and Gulf communities). Verified caveats: BYD removed ADB in v1.7+ (newer units need a downgrade or an AI Box), OTA updates can wipe apps, and video on the driver screen while moving is illegal and unsafe. APKs must be arm64-v8a.

Gulf Tips

Practical Gulf guidance — separating verified experience from estimates and pending specifications.

Pre-condition before driving

In Gulf heat, pre-cool from the car's app 10 min before driving — cabin drops from 60° to 25°.

Prayer mode

Park, hit 'Cabin Mode → Quiet'. AC stays on, music mutes, displays dim.

Charging in Ramadan

Best fast-charge window: 4-6 PM (before iftar, stations empty). Avoid 8-10 PM peak.

The drone needs a flight permit in the Gulf

Flying a drone in Kuwait, KSA, and the UAE requires registration and a civil-aviation permit — and no-fly zones are everywhere (airports, government and oil facilities). A hangar on your roof doesn't exempt you legally. Register the drone and check the zone before any takeoff.

Real range in Gulf summer

501 km CLTC is an optimistic China number — above 40°C with AC expect ~350-400 km (~15-18% loss). Blade LFP handles the heat, but plan trips around 350 km, not 500.

The gray-import reality

Every Tai 3 in the Gulf is an import: no factory warranty, Chinese head unit and maps, and the app usually needs a Chinese number. Price that in — pay well below equivalent official-car money.

Summer Survival Mode

0/10 · 0%

Checklist to prep your EV for 50°C summers. Each item extends battery life and improves your daily drive.

Keys & Access

Fangchengbao app (Chinese)

The app is China-market and may need a Chinese phone number/VPN — have the importer activate it before delivery.

NFC card

Recommended

Backup wallet card — the most reliable option on imports.

Key fob

The classic key.

Driving Assist

God's Eye C — highway NOA

L2+Not in Gulf

Standard on all China trims — but NOA relies on China maps, so Gulf functionality is unconfirmed. Basic ACC and lane keeping usually work.

AEB

Automatic emergency braking.

360° cameras

Full surround view — handy for the boxy body in tight parking.

Safety

  • Blade LFP battery

The most heat-stable, safest battery chemistry.

  • iTAC + iATS

Electric-speed traction control + auto terrain recognition — stability on sand and mud.

  • No GCC factory warranty

Gray import = repairs on you. Get a full car + battery inspection before buying.

Quick Tasks

How do I X — quick tasks every owner should know.

Pre-cool before driving

  1. Open the car app
  2. Climate → Pre-cool
  3. Set timer (5-15 min)
  4. Get in cooled

Schedule night charging

  1. Plug in
  2. Charge → Schedule
  3. Set 23:00 - 06:00
  4. Save — car charges automatically

Camp Mode for sleeping

  1. Park in P
  2. Activate Camp Mode from menu
  3. AC stays on without key
  4. Uses ~1 kWh/hour

Software update

  1. Connect to WiFi
  2. Settings → Software → Check Update
  3. Accept if available
  4. Updates while parked (30-90 min)

Flying the drone (legally)

  1. ⚠️ Register the drone and get a civil-aviation permit first
  2. Confirm you're outside no-fly zones (airports/facilities)
  3. From the drone screen: Launch — the hangar opens and it takes off automatically
  4. Use AI follow-shot or manual control, then Return — it lands and charges in the dock

Rescue-charge a stranded EV with V2L

  1. Enable external discharge from the screen
  2. Plug the V2L adapter, then a portable AC charger into the other EV
  3. 6 kW = ~30-40 km of range per hour for the stranded car
  4. Set your own minimum SOC (30%+) before starting

Pivot turn

  1. AWD only — on open sand or dirt, never tarmac
  2. Come to a full stop and enable it from the off-road menu
  3. The system locks the rear wheels and rotates the car around its axis
  4. Make sure the area around the car is completely clear first

Hacks & Secrets

Hidden features, easter eggs, and tricks you won't find in the manual — from real owners.

  • Gulf-Specific

The drone isn't legally a toy — permit first

The car's coolest feature is the fastest route to a fine: flying an unregistered, unpermitted drone is illegal in Kuwait, KSA, and the UAE, with harsh penalties. Register the DJI Air 3S with the aviation authority and load the no-fly-zone maps before your first launch.

  • Hidden Feature

    V2L can charge another EV

6 kW at 220V is enough to rescue a friend stranded mid-route: V2L adapter + portable AC charger = ~30-40 km of range per hour. Keep a portable charger in the frunk at all times.

  • Comfort

The 151 L frunk = your grocery cooler

One of the biggest frunks in the class — swallows the whole grocery run away from cabin sun, and food smells stay out of the car. For camping: pack it with the gear you need first on arrival.

  • Easter EggAdvanced

    Drift mode — AWD only

The 416 hp AWD has a drift mode that relaxes the nannies and biases torque rearward — safe open ground only (track or sand). On public tarmac it's both illegal and genuinely dangerous.

  • PerformanceAdvanced

Pivot turn is for sand only

The pivot turn locks the rear wheels and spins the car in place — brilliant for reversing course in a narrow sand track, but on tarmac it chews tires and strains the drivetrain. Sand and dirt only.

  • Tip

Let iATS recognize the sand itself

iATS auto-detects terrain (sand/mud/snow/mountain) and adapts traction — but detection takes seconds. Heading into a dune? Manually set sand mode beforehand instead of waiting for the system to figure it out while you're already bogging.

  • Money Saver

The import checklist before you pay

Before any money changes hands: 1) Is the app activated and working without a Chinese number? 2) Does the DC port actually charge on a local CCS2 station (test it physically)? 3) Maps update + English UI? 4) Documented battery health check. Every 'no' = money off the price.

  • Tip

    LFP calibration every 1-2 weeks

Charge 20-80% daily, but LFP packs need a full 100% every 1-2 weeks to keep the range gauge honest. The 'never charge to 100%' advice is for NMC packs, not this one.

  • Tip

AC is slow — always charge overnight

~7 kW AC means a full charge takes ~10 hours ⚠️ (some sources say 11 kW). Simple fix: a nightly wallbox routine, with DC saved for road trips — cheaper for the battery and your wallet.

  • Gulf-Specific

Heads-up: the drone dock raises the roof to 1,930 mm

The Drone edition is taller than standard (1,930 vs 1,720 mm) — some building and mall garages cap at 1.9-2.1 m. Check your daily parking clearance before choosing the flagship, and never mount a roof rack over the hangar.

  • Same car — the Tai 3 (钛3 = Titanium) from Fangchengbao, BYD's off-road arm. Import showrooms market it as the 'Leopard Titanium 3' at AED 75,000-84,000 (2025/2026 cars). There's no official Gulf name because it isn't officially sold here at all.
