The one-minute read

BYD's workforce celebrated the milestone at its Jinan factory, which commenced full-scale production three years ago. The selected vehicle was the DENZA N8L, a premium six-seat sport utility vehicle equipped with Super Hybrid technology and the e3 platform, shared with the Z9GT shooting brake destined for European markets in 2026.

The accelerated pace underscores BYD's production trajectory. Reaching one million units required 13 years from the launch of the groundbreaking F3DM plug-in hybrid in 2008, but surging demand and continuous innovation compressed the jump from 10 million to 15 million vehicles to a single year.

BYD produced 4.182 million vehicles during the first 11 months of 2025, representing 11.3 percent year-over-year growth. International sales reached 917,000 units in this period, exceeding the full-year 2024 export total and underscoring expansion across more than 110 countries and regions.

Substantial research and development investment propels this expansion. BYD allocated 43.75 billion Chinese yuan (5.3 billion euros) to research and development during the first three quarters of 2025, a 31 percent annual increase, bringing cumulative investment to over 220 billion yuan (26.65 billion euros). These investments have yielded breakthroughs in battery chemistry and design, intelligent driving assistance systems, and Flash Charging technology, a megawatt-level rapid-charging system delivering energy replenishment comparable to conventional refuelling.

BYD vehicles are currently available across 33 European countries through more than 1,000 dealership locations. The company plans to double its dealer network by the end of 2026, with Flash Charging technology also scheduled for European market deployment in 2026.
