Fang Cheng Bao Shark plug-in hybrid pickup officially teased ahead of China market entry
BYD's Fang Cheng Bao division has officially unveiled the Shark plug-in hybrid pickup truck for the Chinese market. Announced on 24 September 2026, the model marks the brand's return to its domestic market following international success since May 2024. The vehicle combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with dual-motor all-wheel-drive and LFP battery technology.
Xiong Tianbo, General Manager of the Fang Cheng Bao division, officially unveiled the Shark plug-in hybrid pickup on 24 September 2026, accompanying the reveal with messaging indicating the brand's readiness to introduce the model to its home market. The Shark 6 has already proven its international credentials, reaching sales of 20,037 units during the first half of 2026, though this represents a 25.76 per cent year-on-year decline. The model has maintained particular strength in Australia, which accounted for approximately 85 per cent of June 2026 sales.
The domestic version measures 5,457 millimetres in length, 1,971 millimetres in width and 1,925 millimetres in height, with a wheelbase extending to 3,260 millimetres. Curb weight registers at 2,710 kilograms, with a gross vehicle weight rating of 3,495 kilograms and rated payload capacity of 460 kilograms.
The powertrain features a 1.5-litre turbocharged BYD476ZQF engine producing 135 kilowatts (181 horsepower) of net power and 143 kilowatts (192 horsepower) total output, complying with China VI emission regulations. A dual-motor all-wheel-drive system delivers 170 kilowatts (228 horsepower) peak from the front motor and 150 kilowatts (201 horsepower) from the rear unit.
The vehicle carries a FinDreams-manufactured lithium iron phosphate battery and achieves a maximum velocity of 180 kilometres per hour.
