BYD Set to Launch Great Seagull Electric Hatchback by End of 2026
BYD has officially announced the Great Seagull, a new electric hatchback arriving by late 2026. The larger model features a 95 kW motor and dimensions positioned between existing Dolphin and Seagull variants, offering an intermediate size and price point in BYD's affordable EV lineup.
BYD's Ocean series sales chief Zhou officially confirmed the Great Seagull's launch at the Chengdu Auto Show, with deliveries beginning by end of 2026. The new model measures 4,205 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width, and 1,570 mm in height—substantially larger than the current Seagull's 3,780 mm length. It combines a more powerful 95 kW electric motor against the outgoing 55 kW unit.
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology approval reveals dual battery options: 30.08 kWh and 38.88 kWh, delivering CLTC-rated ranges of 305 km and 405 km respectively. The Great Seagull is expected to incorporate BYD's new Blade Battery 2.0 architecture and Flash Charging technology, with LiDAR sensors visible on the roof for advanced driver-assistance functions.
Undisguised images show a redesigned front fascia featuring slim LED headlights and a sealed grille with pronounced character lines distinguishing it from the standard Seagull. Interior photography reveals an enlarged central infotainment display, restyled center console for improved space, and a new two-spoke steering wheel design. BYD may introduce an international variant as a Dolphin Surf or Dolphin Mini derivative post-launch, potentially with enlarged batteries targeting European competitors like the ID.3 Neo and Renault Megane.
