Aito, the new-energy vehicle brand under Huawei's Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance, firmly denied rumors circulating on Chinese social media claiming its vehicles bore future manufacturing dates on their VIN plates. The posts featured images of an Aito M6 identification plate showing an October 2026 production date, generating significant online discussion.
In an official statement published on its fact-checking WeChat account, Aito clarified that the original VIN plate belonged to an M6 manufactured in July 2026. The brand attributed the viral images to digital manipulation using Photoshop or artificial intelligence technology. Despite matching model codes, chassis numbers, and engine specifications between the two images, differences appeared only in lighting conditions, camera angles, and the stamped date.
Aito emphasized it had compiled evidence and filed a police report, reserving the right to pursue additional legal action against those spreading the misinformation. The dispute gained traction partly during a broader Chinese social conversation about pre-made frozen meals, with posters adapting the terminology to jokingly refer to the M6 as a "pre-made car."
The incident surfaced as the M6, Aito's mid-range luxury NEV SUV, experienced a dramatic sales decline. Data showed only 5,428 deliveries in July 2026, representing a sharp fall from its May peak of 18,148 units. The M6 retails between 229,800 and 299,800 yuan and features Huawei's Harmony OS cabin technology alongside the company's LiDAR-equipped Qiankun assisted-driving system.
