Porsche has introduced wireless inductive charging on the production Cayenne Electric SUV, marking the first time the automaker has integrated this technology into a production vehicle. The system delivers charging rates up to 11 kW with approximately 90% efficiency and automatically initiates when the vehicle is parked over the ground pad.
Porsche has unveiled the wireless charging system for the Cayenne Electric, introducing the feature alongside additional color options and convenience enhancements. The Porsche Wireless Charging system pairs an underside vehicle pad with a ground-mounted pad installed in the customer's parking space, enabling automatic charging initiation without cable connection.
The ground pad features weatherproof construction suitable for outdoor installation. The system delivers charging capacity up to 11 kW with energy transfer efficiency of approximately 90%, making it practical for overnight charging and daily use cycles.
Integrated safety mechanisms include motion sensors and foreign object detection technology. The system automatically halts charging if a living creature approaches the vehicle or ground pad, or if a metallic object on the pad risks overheating—preventing unintended hazards.
Porsche is rolling out the wireless charging system in staged phases globally, with availability beginning in Germany and select European markets as of September 2026. Customers in these regions can now order vehicles equipped with the wireless charging capability.
