Volkswagen Reveals ID.3 GTI: Electric Hot Hatch Outpowers Traditional Golf GTI
Volkswagen unveiled the ID.3 GTI, its most powerful GTI ever, marking the nameplate's 50th anniversary. The electric hot hatch delivers 322 horsepower and 545 Nm of torque, surpassing the Golf GTI Edition 50. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and offers up to 601 km of WLTP range.
Volkswagen unveiled the ID.3 GTI on 16 September 2026, becoming the second electric vehicle to receive the GTI treatment following the ID.Polo. The hot hatch delivers 322 horsepower (240 kW) and 545 Nm of torque, marginally surpassing the Golf GTI Edition 50's 321 horsepower. The critical distinction lies in propulsion: ID.3 GTI employs rear-wheel-drive electric power rather than traditional combustion.
The vehicle incorporates "GTI Dynamics" featuring an adaptive DCC sports chassis, low center of gravity, and direct progressive steering. A new "GTI Mode" function synchronizes all systems toward maximum sportiness across drive, chassis, motor, and steering parameters. The car simulates traditional sports-engine acoustics similar to the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N.
The ID.3 GTI utilizes a 79 kWh battery delivering 601 kilometers of WLTP range. DC fast charging up to 183 kW enables 10-80% recharging in approximately 29 minutes. Pre-sales open in early 2027, with pricing expected to exceed the ID.Polo GTI's starting point of 39,000 euros. The vehicle features VW's new front design with a red stripe referencing the 1976 Golf GTI, plus revised 20-inch Wörthersee wheels.
